Braille Workshop and Blindfolded Walking Experience

This immersive, two-part experiential event offered participants a profound opportunity to step inside the shoes of individuals with visual impairments, successfully bridging the gap between sympathy and true understanding. Hosted under the invaluable guidance of Selman Devecioğlu, a visually impaired teacher, author, and poet living here in Sivas, the program began with a hands-on Braille Workshop, where attendees discovered the fundamentals of tactile reading and writing by transforming the visual alphabet into raised dot patterns using specialized tools. The journey then shifted to physical space during the Blindfolded Walking Experience; paired with a guide for safety, participants used white canes to navigate a designated path without sight, relying entirely on auditory cues, tactile feedback from the ground, and spatial memory. Ultimately, the event served as a powerful, transformative lesson in trust, sensory adaptation, and the critical importance of fostering accessible, inclusive everyday environments for everyone in our community.
